Join us this fall for the 2023 Moose Meetup on Oct. 7th. We’ll be celebrating the fall season in beautiful Lake George, NY where we’re hoping to be surrounded by the Adirondack Mountains in peak, or near peak Autumn colors. Please remember to bring a leash and water for your dog(s).
Important: There is a $10 per car fee at the gate.
The Veterans Memorial Highway is a 5.5 mile winding road that offers some of the regions most breathtaking views of Lake George, the Adirondack High Peaks, the Vermont Green Mountains, and New Hampshire’s White Mountains. On the ascent we will be stopping once at The Narrows to take in the views and make sure everyone got through the gate. Next, near the top is a large parking lot in an area called the Eagle’s Nest, here we’ll park once again and walk our dogs the last bit to the summit.
The hike is about a 1/4 mile ascent up a paved surface trail, it’s not too long but it’s pretty steep. Alternatively there is also a longer walk that goes around and up, or for anyone with mobility issues you may be able to drive to the summit, however there is only approved handicap parking at the summit.
Once at the summit we encourage everyone to take some time to take in the sights, rest and explore. There are a few picnic tables and other areas to sit to have a snack and hydrate you and your dog(s), plus there will be plenty of photo opps so be sure to bring a camera!
We will begin our decent back down to the Eagles Nest around 11:45am.
Outside the fenced area we’ll provide lunch (pizza and drinks) for all the humans, as well as some fall seasonal sweet treats. For the doggies we’ll have something new, we’re calling them Moose Morsels :-), delicious, homemade by Tracy, doggy snacks that we think will be a big hit among our furry friends.
Special Guest & Demo – We are honored to have a special guest at this years meetup, our friend Diane Blackman of All Dawgs. Diane is a Golden Retriever owner and professional dog trainer from Albany, NY. Diane has agreed to talk to our group and answer basic questions about dog training as well as do a retriever field-dog demonstration. Then if there is time, your dog just may get a chance to try to retrieve a bumper too!
What if it rains? – We’ll have the event outside as planned in light rain, for heavy rain we are working on an alternative plan, more to come.
